Born on the East coast, Jasmine Simone first picked up a camera at the early age of ten—influenced by self-portraiture and memorable photography. Growing up with an awareness of feminist issues and digital technologies, Jasmine was drawn to the bigger picture of women’s entrepreneurial leaps in the fashion and media industries. To attend college she made the move to California, where she naturally felt the transition to fashion photography, commercial brand design, and feminist media studies.

Jasmine enjoys creating timeless and editorial imagery. She is inspired by feminine strength, unique beauty and classic style.

Her work encompasses the mediums of photography, collage, design, digital art, illustration, and new media, as well as, writings about art and culture. Centered on a distinctive blend of feminist theory, social critique, and tongue-in-cheek humor, her concerns traverse the fashioning of self identity for women in relation to hegemonic ideals featured in art, politics, history, culture, and popular media. Her work aims to convey a message of equity, inclusivity, and sustainability. Inspired by an education in feminist studies and an enthusiasm for fashion and beauty, Jasmine seeks to combine these two areas of interest to create a modern approach to commercial and editorial art direction and design focused on a distinct awareness of social issues. 

With an eye to women’s experiences in the public sphere and a critical voice toward power relations and popular culture, Jasmine’s art and discourse address the affect of the female subject within patriarchy, traditional gender roles, consumerism, and in movies, TV, magazines, and social media obsessed with youth and status. Appropriating elements of pop culture in her work such as advertising, fashion and technology, she produces an exploration of stereotypes that highlight the dissociation between mass conformity and the socio-psychological neoliberal principles of individualism. 

She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her partner, interactive artist Adon Newman, and regularly focuses on photography, web, and brand design projects with female entrepreneurs at her design studio, Siren Media.
